Down the YouTube Rabbit Hole…

Do you ever watch a video on YouTube and all of sudden you’ve watched like 10 others from the related videos?

Haha!

I was looking up the pronunciation of the name Alcee (I was curious and it was in one of my homework readings) and then stumbled across another related video on native pronunciations vs. written words by this British woman named Jade, and then I watched a few of her other videos on her personal channel and she’s just so cute and hilarious AND she also has anxiety. I think it’s social anxiety, like me, but I’m not sure if she knows that.

Anyway, I loved these two videos she posted:

1. Lisping and what to do about it…

2. Mad Hermit Woman (Sound familiar? I was just telling someone the other day that I needed a break from homework and my cave aka home. ;P)

I thought you might enjoy them (whoever you may be). And check out her other videos. Chances are, if you’re an introvert or have social anxiety, you might learn a thing or two. Or if you want to be better at public speaking, she’s got some great tips for that too!

Life and Such

It’s been a while since my last post… Almost two years! Eeeek!

So what have I been up to the past two years? Not much, honestly. I’m still working at Fred Meyer, in the Apparel Dept. I’m still going to school on and off and I will HOPEFULLY be done with my Associate’s degree by Spring of next year (I passed all my math classes! Phew!). I’ve also been drawing more than crafting lately. Mostly black and white sketches in ink.

My main computer broke down again, which is another reason I haven’t blogged much, though this happened more recently. I’m pretty bummed out about it but I haven’t done much to get it repaired. I need to check whether it’s just the power supply that shorted out during a power outage. That should be an easy fix, but if it’s something else, like the motherboard… Eeek. No bueno.

Last year we went to PAX (Penny Arcade Expo) with some friends from Grand Rapids, MI, and we cosplayed as The Scoobie Gang and as Steampunkers. We did it again this year at GenCon in Indiannapolis, IN, with the same friends and had lots of fun!

Those are all the major things I can think of. Oh, we also visited my family in Chicago this year, just before GenCon. I got to meet my two beautiful nieces who were born after I left Chicago five years ago.

This year has been pretty good so far. :)

Football, Key Lime Pie, Organizing, and Etsy Listings! Whew!

Football & Pie Firsts

I watched my first full football game on TV at Jersey’s in Shoreline with Travis and his parents, Alan and Janet, where I also had my first ever key lime pie on Thursday of last week (Dec. 29th)! Each of the three times I have been to Jersey’s I have had the Tuna Melt. It is sooooo delicious!

What I thought I knew about football was almost completely wrong. And it was actually fun to watch. We watched the University of Washington Huskies vs. Baylor from Texas. Alan and Janet patiently answered my questions about the rules of the game and what certain actions meant because at the beginning of the game I was totally lost.

I did not get to see who won, we left before the game ended with Baylor in the lead. We had had a long day of cleaning. I was helping Alan earlier that day to clean and organize his “office”, which used to be Travis’ old bedroom.

The key lime pie was really good. I am not sure why I had not had any before. Maybe because I do not know what a key lime is? A quick Google search tells me that its Spanish name is lima, which I am familiar with and was a fruit we would eat sometimes when I was a kid.

Cleaning & Organizing

As I mentioned earlier, last Thursday I was helping Alan clean and organize his office. He gave us a few things he did not want or have use for. Alan gave Travis old art supplies he had lying around for paper mache. He also gave us a cat bed, he said his cats did not like it but ours LOVE that bed, especially Ashes. Look at him enjoying a nap in there:

And just for fun, here is one of Ashes propping his head on the legs of a chair. He seems to like propping his head in/on the weirdest places/positions:

I have a couple of white cardboard IKEA magazine file boxes to give to Alan since he does not really have a paper organizational area on his desk or nearby.

By the way, he has a new project he has been working on and has a Facebook page (Quiet Mind) and website (HearQuietMind.com) set up where you can listen to and buy his stress relief audio tracks.

State of the Art Psychological Magic for Immediate Stress Relief, Inner Harmony & Consciousness Expansion.

In other news, our building has installed new high-tech washing machines and dryers. High efficiency, front loading which reduces water, electricity and laundry soap usage. The really cool thing is that we can now check online and see which machines are in use and also check if our load is done. They can also send you a text message or email to notify you when it is done! Very useful since we have to go up and down three flights of stairs. Ouch.

Check out the demo page here.

This Week’s Etsy Listings

I have been in a bit of a crafting block lately so I only had the following two items to list this week, but yesterday I created seven completely new items! They will show up in my Etsy store in the next few days.

A really pretty bracelet made with light pink glass pearl beads, a thin goldtone metal chain, and a statement goldtone mesh bow charm that hangs in the middle. The pearls are threaded on a stretchy, clear cord that ideally fits around a size 7 1/2 inch wrist. It is one of my pricier items but it is justified as it took me at least an hour and a half to create because of the individual jump rings I installed between each pearl bead to loop the thin chain. I wanted the chain to hang a little longer away from the beads but I like how it ended up looking like the chain is wrapped around the pearls.

My next item is a tan colored double-wrap, braided suede cord bracelet with goldtone findings and a lobster clasp closure. The suede cord is really soft and flexible and not the kind that is stiff, so it is very comfortable and light on the wrist. I made one for myself a few months back in gray with silvertone findings and I love mine!

Tell me what you think! I know I am all over the place design-wise on my items. I am still trying to find my niche of items to make and perfecting my craft. I will get there some day, for now I am just giving everything a try. :)

Thanks for reading!

Scary Movies

After reading Julia’s tweet, a YouTube make-up guru I follow, saying this, “Just downloaded a bunch of horror films to watch in bed : ) My bf hates scary movies”, my mind traveled back to my childhood and our love of horror films.

My mom, sisters, and I loved to watch all the Freddy Krueger, Friday the 13th, and Hellraiser movies and most any other horror movies we happened to catch on T.V. I don’t recall any of us being afraid of the dark because of those movies. In fact, I think we loved being in the dark. We would play hide-and-seek often. My mom would turn off all the lights in the house and then we’d all scramble away and hide anywhere we could. It was usually my mom who was the seeker while the three of us girls hid. I’ll have to ask her about it sometime.

Nowadays, it’s a different story for me and probably my other sister, Lisa. I can’t stand watching any gory/scary/horror movies because I just cringe and can feel the goriness of it all throughout my body and bones. I never used to be as squeamish as I am now. Even the sight of my own blood makes me nervous sometimes.

I believe this all started when I saw The Grudge for the first time at the movie theater. Not sure why it scared me to the point where I couldn’t sleep for days and I started being afraid of shadows and feeling a bit disoriented. That feeling of being scared went away after about a month or so but since then I haven’t been able to watch ANY horror movies. The sight of someone getting their feet cut off both grosses me out and makes me feel like it’s MY leg that’s being cut off. I have to close my eyes and think of something else.

I don’t think I’m easily scared, but I am easily grossed out. Dirty fingernails, the sticky ring left by a glass, even dust sometimes. I do admit I am a bit of a germaphobe and I didn’t realize that until Travis, my boyfriend, pointed it out some time ago.

Anyway, that’s a little bit of history on me. :)

Ideas and Rude People

Why do my better ideas come to me when I’m taking a shower when I have no way to write them down?

I get ideas about blog topics I’d like to post, or art making ideas, creative things like that. So many ideas running through my head at once, like a series of dreams that you forget almost instantaneously when you wake up.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I can be very forgetful and a daydreamer, too! I’m doomed. I’m a quiet thinker. When asked a question I think it over in my head deeply until I come up with a satisfactory answer. Flaws of a perfectionist.

That reminds me of at least three instances at work when I was asked about where certain products were. I kinda zone out and think for too long if I dont know the answer right away. Twice I was rudely asked if I even knew what the item in question was. Oh man, how that stung. I felt so dumb and then I become flustered. It’s already difficult for me to interact with people in person, and having to deal with rude people just makes it even worse. It makes me want to shut down and give up.

Anyway, I should really go to sleep. I have to be up in just a few hours but I wanted to try and keep my blog up. More randomness to come later. :)
